Tehran - Iran said yesterday the participation of Americans in an international wrestling tournament in Tehran would have no effect on its ties with Washington.
"There is no relationship in the coming of these sportsmen and our relations with the US," Iran's top judicial official, Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi, said. Five top-rated US amateur wrestlers are to participate in the event which opens today. It will be the first time a US sports team has competed in Iran since 1979.
