Tokyo - The US navy showed video footage of a sunken fishing vessel to families of nine Japanese nationals who are missing and presumed dead after a collision with a US submarine, it was reported yesterday. The video was played for the families at a facility in Honolulu for two hours on Saturday evening, the Kyodo news agency reported.

A total of 22 family members are still in Hawaii following the February 9th accident, in which the surfacing US submarine Greeneville struck the Japanese boat Ehime Maru, causing it to sink within minutes. The footage was taken by the US navy's remote-control submersible robot. Footage showed the vessel sitting nearly upright on the dark seabed, with its stern deeply covered with mud. The name of the Ehime Maru was clearly visible on the vessel's body, although no major traces of the collision could be seen in the footage.
