Former Northern Ireland Lord Chief Justice Lord Hutton is to receive an honorary degree at the University of Ulster, it was announced today.

The retired British Law Lord, who prepared the controversial report into the death of weapons expert Dr David Kelly, is being recognised for his services to higher education in his role as Visitor to the University.

Lord Hutton was nominated several months ago, according to a university spokesman.  He is to receive his honorary degree of Doctor of Law at the summer graduations.

Irish actors Stephen Rea and Fiona Shaw, as well as Peter Quinn, a former president of the GAA, are among others being honoured.
