Luanda - Angola's former rebel movement UNITA said yesterday it would fulfil UN Security Council demands to avert new sanctions, but officials close to the peace process said they doubted UNITA's will to comply.

Last week the Security Council announced a package of sanctions due to come into effect on September 30th unless the Secretary-General Kofi Annan confirms that UNITA has taken "concrete and irreversible steps" to fulfil its obligations.
