Chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes court Ms Carla del Ponte said today she would present her report on Belgrade's cooperation with her tribunal by the end of May.

Ms Del Ponte, speaking at the end of a visit to Montenegro, said the report would be "a good occasion to assess the level of cooperation of Yugosalvia and [its] readiness to cooperate fully with the tribunal and my office in particular".

The Swiss prosecutor has criticised Belgrade for its reluctance to hand over former president Mr Slobodan Milosevic and four of his close allies indicted for alleged war crimes committed in Kosovo in 1999.

She said since Yugoslavia had taken up its seat again at the United Nations, it was obliged to abide by UN rules and cooperate with the court.

She said the same obligation applied under the Dayton accord that Yugoslavia signed at the end of the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

Mr Kostunica and other Belgrade politicians have said Mr Milosevic should be tried in Yugoslavia. AFP
