Police in Britain launched a murder investigation today which links the deaths of two female prostitutes whose naked bodies were found a mile apart in the same stream within one week of each other.

Police said the body of a woman found in water yesterday is that of missing 19-year-old prostitute Tania Nicol. Police divers found the body on the outskirts of Ipswich. The body of prostitute Gemma Adams, 25, was found naked in a brook a mile away last Saturday.

"We are now beginning a linked murder investigation," Detective Superintendent Andy Henwood of Ipswich police told a televised news conference. He said there were "obvious similarities" between the deaths and urged local prostitutes to look out for each other. Nicol and Adams were friends and worked in the same red light district in Ipswich.

Police have said there was no evidence of sexual assault on either of the girls.
