Celtic manager Martin O'Neill was suspended for one match by UEFA today, following his sending-off during the club's Champions League defeat to Juventus in Turin on Tuesday night.

O'Neill was furious when Juventus were awarded a controversial last-minute penalty, converted for a 3-2 win, and was ordered into the stands after remonstrating against German referee Hellmut Krug.

UEFA said he had been dismissed "for dissent directed at match officials."

O’Neill must now watch his side from the stand for Tuesday's Champions League game against Porto at Parkhead.

UEFA's control and disciplinary body statement read: "Mr O’Neill may of course attend the next UEFA Champions League match of Celtic FC against FC Porto as a normal spectator in the stands.

"However, his presence before and during the match in the dressing rooms, in the technical area, on the playing field or in the players tunnel is not allowed, as well as any communication during the course of the match with his team."

UEFA's control and disciplinary body also rejected a protest lodged by Celtic FC asking for the revocation of the yellow card shown to defender Joos Valgaeren in the 89th minute of the Turin clash.
