Tyrone see off 13-man Donegal

Gaelic Games round-up: Tyronekept up their unbeaten start in Division One of the Allianz Football League as they beat defending All-Ireland champions Donegal2-8 to 0-12 at Healy Park in Omagh.

Donegal finished the game with 13 men after Michael Murphy got a second yellow following a rash challenge after he missed a penalty just before half-time, while Neil Gallagher also received a second yellow five minutes from time.

Mickey Harte’s side join Dublin and Kildare at the top of the table after making it a third win from three, with goalkeeper Niall Morgan providing the heroics, and not just with the save from Murphy’s spot kick.

A goal would have put Donegal ahead at the break, but Morgan’s save and Murphy’s subsequent sending off proved crucial.

Donegal reduced the deficit to just one point after the break, but Stephen O’Neill would score the only goal of the game when his shot caught a Donegal defender and screwed over the line from the deflection.

Kildarekept up their unbeaten run by adding to Kerry’swoes with a 2-8 to 0-12 win at Newbridge.

Kerry only had themselves to blame, kicking 16 wides, while goals from Seanie Johnston and Johnny Doyle in each half.

Having trailed by five in the second half, Kerry did get within one point of the Lilywhites at one stage, but Kildare Paddy Brophy scoring the final points of the game after coming off the bench for the home side.

Corkclaimed their first points of the campaign at Páirc Esler as a last-gasp goal from Ciarán Sheehan gave the Rebels a 3-12 to 1-17 victory over Down, who remain without a win so far.

It was a scrappy effort as Sheehan bundled the ball over the line, but it will matter little to Conor Counihan after his side lost their two opening games in Division One.

Tomás Clancy and Aidan Walsh scored Cork’s other goals during a thrilling first half in which Connaire Harrison scored Down’s only three-pointer.

It gave the home side a two-point advantage at the interval (1-9 to 2-4) but Cork stormed ahead at the start of the second half by scoring six points to a single score for Down.

The momentum swung back to Down, who scored five unanswered points, but Sheehan’s dramatic late intervention settled the game in Cork’s favour.

Westmeathfought back in the second half to earn a draw against Galwayat Tuam Stadium to stay top of Division Two.

The visitors trailed 0-2 to 0-8 at the interval, but scored the first four points at the start of the second half and even led after Denis Cooroon scored the game’s only goal. In the end they needed a free from John Heslin three minutes from the end to secure the point.
