A man and woman who were electrocuted on Saturday afternoon were in a stable condition in Kerry General Hospital yesterday. The accident occurred at Guranebane, on the Valentia side of Cahersiveen.

Gardaí said a man was felling a tree in the garden of a house and the woman was attempting to guide the tree to the ground with a rope. Another man, who was in the area tending his cattle, came to her assistance.

The tree tipped an overhead power line and the pair suffered electric shock and burns. The man cutting the tree was uninjured and it is thought the electricity travelled through the rope being used to pull down the tree.

Ambulance personnel, a doctor and gardaí arrived on the scene and the Shannon-based Sikorsky helicopter was called to bring them to hospital.
