Two of the three men questioned by gardai in connection with a fatal stabbing in Tralee were released without charge tonight.
The third man, held in relation to the death of father-of-six Mr Michael Faulkner in the town last night - was also expected to be released before his period of detention expired.
Gardai said the 43-year-old unemployed dead man - who was known to local officers - was found with "vicious" stab wounds to his body near the grotto at Mitchell's Crescent area at 11.40 p.m.
He was taken to Tralee General Hospital where he died.
The three men, all in their early twenties, were arrested early this morning in the Tralee area and could be held and questioned for 12 hours.
Files will now be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
A local garda spokesman said: "The investigation is at an early stage but we're following several lines of inquiry and are making steady progress.
"We have a number of witnesses to interview and we have also recovered significant items of evidence from the scene for forensic analysis."
Up to 20 officers are working on the case from an incident room in Tralee Garda Station.
The results of a full post mortem on the man's body are being by withheld by gardai for operational reasons.
