In the first incident, a 20-year-old man was dragged from his home in Breezemount Grove, Bangor, Co Down by a gang of four masked men.

Three of the men were armed with baseball bats, while the fourth had a handgun, which he used to shoot the victim in the right calf.

In the second attack, a 17-year-old was abducted from his home in Milewater Drive, Newtownabbey, Co Antrim last night.

He was driven in a car by a gang of men to shops in the New Mossley area, where he was severely beaten, suffering cuts and bruises to the head.
