Two people have been killed in overnight road crashes in Kildare and Roscommon, and one man is in a critical condition after a suspected hit-and-run incident in Dublin.

A 21-year-old woman died after the car in which she was travelling hit an ESB pole on the Castleplunkett to Ballintubber road in Co Roscommon yesterday evening.

The woman has been named as Lorraine Ryan, of Williamstown Road, Castlerea, Co Roscommon.

In Co Kildare a 30-year-old man died when the car he was driving hit a ditch in Ballymore Eustace shortly after midnight.

The deceased has been named as Mr Shay Winders, of Liffey Heights, Ballymore Eustace.

Meanwhile in Dublin a man remains in a critical condition after a suspected hit-and-run incident involving a car and a motorcycle in Ronanstown at around 4.20 p.m.

The man was thrown from his motorcycle in the incident which happened on the Stations Road-Cloverhill Road bridge.

The driver of the car allegedly left the scene.
