Two Irish people have been arrested during protests at the G8 summit in Germany.

The man and woman, from Dublin and Cork and in their early 20s, were arrested during demonstrations yesterday. They are being held by police in Rostock, a town close to the summit venue of Heiligendamm.

A spokesman for the Irish Embassy in Berlin said the pair had contacted the embassy and were being offered consular assistance.
