A man and a woman who were arrested and charged with importing cocaine with an estimated street value of £5,000 and possessing it for sale or supply were remanded on bail in Galway District Court yesterday.

Ms Colleen McDonald (30), St Nicholas Street, Galway, and Mr Joseph Ryan (30), Tubberjarlath Road, Tuam, are both charged with the possession of cocaine at Ballinadrummy, Broadford, Co Kildare, and with possession of the drug for sale or supply.

They also are charged with unlawfully importing cocaine, a controlled drug in contravention of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Ms McDonald is also charged with the possession of cannabis herb.

Det Sgt Gerard Roche said he arrested the defendants before 9 a.m. yesterday. Judge John Garavan remanded both on their own sureties of £1,000 to appear before the court on January 31st, 2000, and made it a condition of their bail that they report twice weekly to Mill Street Station.
