Gardaí in Limerick have arrested two men in connection with criminal damage done to the pitch at the Thomond Park rugby grounds in Limerick last month.

The men - aged 17 and 19 - were arrested by gardaí in the Moyross area of the city and are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mayorstone Garda Station.

Last month, staff arriving to work at Thomond Park found that vandals had dug up hundreds of sods of turf, causing up to €20,000 worth of damage.

The damage, carried out in daylight by two men wearing hoodies, ran the length of the pitch and resulted in the cancellation of a number of fixtures due to be played at the venue.
