Turkish police have detained two suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militant group over a bomb plot in Ankara that was foiled by police this week, local media have reported.
On Tuesday, the sixth anniversary of the al-Qaeda attacks on the United States, Turkish police foiled what authorities said would have been a disastrous attack when they found a vehicle packed with explosives in a multi-storey carpark in the capital.
Sabahnewspaper said today police had detained two people in whose houses PKK documents had been found. DNA tests were being run on one of the suspects, a university student, to check for a match with hair found in the van.
The foiled attack followed a suicide bombing at an Ankara shopping centre in May which killed at least six people and injured dozens. Authorities blamed the PKK but the group, which has been fighting for a Kurdish homeland since 1984, denied involvement.
