Two held after armed robbery in Laois

Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery in Co Laois last night.

The incident took place at a filling station in Mountrath at about 10.15pm when two men entered the premises with a firearm and stole an undisclosed sum of money.

There were no shots fired in the incident and no one was injured.

The two men, who are aged 19 and 22, were detained after gardaí intercepted their car on the M7 shortly after the robbery and recovered the stolen cash and a firearm from the car.

The men are being detained at Portlaoise garda station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
