Two men were today charged with membership of the IRA and possession of explosives and ammunition at a sitting of the Special Criminal Court. One of the men is also facing charges of being in possession of an assault rifle.

Mr James Bullman, of St Ita's St, St Mary's Park, Limerick and Mr Christopher Dinneen, of Sarsfield Court, Garryowen, Limerick appeared before Mr Justice Johnston facing charges in connection with a Garda search of Mr Dinneen's house in Garryowen last Wednesday.

Mr Bullman was charged with membership of an illegal organisation and was also charged with possession of assorted rounds of ammunition. He was also charged with possession an explosive substance, semtex.

Mr Dinneen was charged in relation to membership of an illegal organisation and possession of explosives and ammunition. He is also facing charges of being possession of an assault rifle.

Mr Justice Johnston remanded the two men in custody until the next sitting of the Special Criminal Court on November 13th.
