Two charged on Irishman's death in Perth

Western Australian police have confirmed that a Dubliner found murdered had strong local underworld connections

Western Australian police have confirmed that a Dubliner found murdered had strong local underworld connections. Joseph Paul Flanagan (35), popularly known as "Irish Joe", was found dead in a shallow bush grave near Collie, 200 km south of Perth.

A man and a woman appeared at East Perth Magistrates Court yesterday charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Flanagan.

The pair, who police say had "business connections" with Mr Flanagan, a carpenter, were arrested on Friday and led police to his bush grave.

Ms Deborah Anne Wylie (28) and Mr Kenneth Dawson Scott (49), both of Perth, were not required to plead to the charges, which are expected to be upgraded to murder after the autopsy. They were remanded in custody to appear on June 16th. Police are still looking for a third person believed to have been present when Mr Flanagan was killed.
