Twelve people have been arrested over organised crime in the Dublin region.

The gang is believed to have amassed tens of thousands of euro in stolen property by confusing their victims at ATMs, pubs and clubs, and robbing them.

Officers raided six homes in Tallaght and the North Circular Road at around 5.30am today as part of "Operation Hawk-Eye".

Nine men and three women, all originally from Romania and ranging in age from 16 to their mid-40s, were arrested.

More than €30,000 worth of property was seized during the searches, including mobile phones, cameras, clothing and cash.

The suspects are being held at Store Street, Pearse Street, Harcourt Terrace and Bridewell Garda Stations.

A Garda spokesman warned people to be alert to distraction thefts tactics also used by other criminal gangs in Ireland.
