It has been at the centre of constant criticism for its content, cost and value to people across Britain, but London's Millennium Dome was described by the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, yesterday, as "a triumph of confidence over cynicism, boldness over blandness, excellence over mediocrity". Mr Blair was visiting the Dome with Lord Falconer, the minister in charge of it, to unveil the final tranche of 1,012 millennium products chosen by the Design Council for their innovative style.

Among the products is a set of Royal Mail stamps designed for the millennium to celebrate British innovation and historical events, and the BBC television series, Walking with Dinosaurs.

After touring the u758 £758 million Dome, on the south bank of the Thames at Greenwich, and viewing the 90 ft human sculptures of the Dome's Body Zone, Mr Blair declared that it would be open on time and on budget.
