THE leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, Mr David Trimble, will be a guest at the White House for St Patrick's Day celebrations on March 15th, a spokesman confirmed yesterday.

The Sinn Fein leader, Mr Gerry Adams, as expected to be in Washington next week but is excluded from the White House because of the ending of the IRA ceasefire.

Mr Trimble, who will arrive in Washington next Wednesday, will also be a guest at the Speaker's lunch on March 14th. At the lunch, always attended by the President and leading Irish American politicians, Mr Adams had his first handshake with Mr Clinton a year ago.
