The RUC has said today it will not release close-circuit TV footage of a four-year-old boy who drove off in a toy truck from a store in Derry on Saturday.

The boy disappeared from the shop behind the wheel of the £250 Step 2 Mighty Mac.

It was the sole model in Millar's Toymaster in the Springtown Industrial Estate.

The boy vanished in the 5 m.p.h battery-operated toy within four minutes of arriving at the store.

Police have said they are actively investigating the theft. "It is being pursued - the case that is", an RUC spokesman told ireland.comtoday.

Detectives have said a van or trailer would have been needed to transport it out of the car-park and surveillance footage showed an adult couple hurrying behind the child as he left through the front door.

However, the RUC has said it will not release the footage as it would be inappropriate on account of the boy's age.
