London - A total ban on handguns came into effect in Britain yesterday. Now anyone who decides to hold on to their favourite pistol could face up to 10 years in jail.
The firearms legislation, among the toughest in the world, was introduced after the massacre in the Scottish town of Dunblane in 1996, when a crazed loner, Thomas Hamilton, shot dead 16 school children and their teacher before killing himself.
