Tennis: Top seed Justine Henin required just 68 minutes to beat Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4 6-0 in the second round of the US Open.

Henin stroked 22 winners during a comfortable victory over Bulgarian qualifier Pironkova in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Wimbledon champion Venus Williams advanced to the third round with a straight sets win over Raluca Olaru.  The 12th seed required just 69 minutes to record a 6-4 6-2 success

Fifth seed Ana Ivanovic was an early winner on day three of the US Open in New York.

The Serbian star cruised past Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai 6-3 6-1 in the opening match on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday.

Ivanovic, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon earlier this summer, cracked 22 winners as she raced to victory in just 65 minutes.

In the men's draw, Mikhail Youzhny got off to a flying start when he dispatched Frenchman Nicolas Devilder in straight sets.

The 11th seed from Russia thrashed US Open debutant Devilder 6-0 6-1 6-2 to set up a second-round meeting with unseeded German Phillipp Kohlschreiber.

Former US Open champion Marat Safin was pushed all the way by Canadian qualifier Frank Dancevic before he eventually won his first match of the tournament 7-5 7-6 7-6.
