THOMOND PARK rugby stadium was the venue for a historic “match” yesterday when a Co Tipperary couple became the first people to marry at the famous sporting ground.

Sue Collins and Barry Hogan said “I do” in a ceremony overlooking the half way line of the hallowed rugby turf during Thomond Park’s first civil wedding ceremony. It was an extra special occasion for the bride and groom who used to work in the old Bohemian’s bar at the Limerick stadium before it underwent a €40 million face-lift.

The couple, who live in Portroe Co Tipperary, are huge Munster supporters. The groom who wore a red tie and red flower, used to play rugby with Nenagh but never had the opportunity to play in Thomond Park.

His bride had the honour of doing her last-minute preparations in the same dressing room used by Bob Dylan, Pink, Rod Stewart and Elton John when they performed at Thomond Park.
