Three people have been arrested by detectives investigating the suspected sectarian murder of a Catholic schoolboy in Northern Ireland.

A man and a woman were questioned yesterday about allegedly assisting an offender as part of the probe into the death of Michael McIlveen (15).

A teenage boy was also detained over a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

All three were held in Ballymena, Co Antrim, where the boy was killed in May.

The St Patrick's college pupil was ambushed and beaten by a mob after being chased through the town.

The murder led clergymen and public representatives to plead for an end to the sectarian tensions that have scarred Ballymena. At his funeral, hundreds of teenagers followed the cortege, wearing Celtic football shirts with "Mickybo RIP" printed on the back.

So far seven people, including a number of juveniles, have been charged with offences connected to the killing.
