Three men were yesterday in custody in London charged with murdering 16-year-old Mary-Ann Leneghan, whose family comes from Co Mayo.

Adrian Anthony Thomas (19), south-east London, and Indrit Krasniqi (18), west London, were also charged with kidnap and the attempted murder of Mary-Ann's 18-year-old friend. Both will appear before Reading Magistrates Court today.

Jamaile Morally (21), Balham, south-west London, faces the same charges and also one of rape. After appearing on Saturday at Reading Magistrates Court he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital to be treated for "self-inflicted" injuries sustained at the court's holding cell, police said.

Morally was last night being held at HMP Bullingdon.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Reading Crown Court next Thursday.

Mary-Ann and her friend were abducted from the car park at the disused Wallingford Arms pub in Reading on the night of May 6th

They were then taken to a guesthouse and sexually abused by a gang of up to six men before being dumped at nearby Prospect Park. Mary-Ann died from a stab wound to the neck. Her friend survived being shot in the head.

Another man being held by detectives has had his detention extended for another 24 hours, until this evening.

Two women and a man, also arrested in connection with the killing, were released last night on police bail.

Det Supt Mark Warwick, leading the inquiry, said at a news conference at Reading police station: "There are people in the community that have information that could be valuable to us and we would urge them to come forward." - (PA)
