A man is in a serious condition in hospital today after a knife attack in Co Armagh.

A man is in a serious condition in hospital today after a knife attack in Co Armagh.

He was attacked in a car park in Lurgan and stabbed at least twice in the stomach.

Police said two men, aged 35 and 30 and from the Lurgan area, had been arrested for questioning about the incident.

A spokesman said they had an open mind on the motive for the attack but did not believe it to be sectarian.

In Belfast a 24-year-old man was fighting for his life after being attacked near a pub in the Falls Road.

Police said he suffered serious head injuries in the attack at Brighton Street close to Caffrey's Bar.

Officers appealed for anyone in the area between 1.30 a.m. and 2.05 a.m. this morning and who witnessed the attack or saw anything suspicious to contact them.
