THREE PEOPLE were injured yesterday morning after a crane collapsed at the Point Village in Dublin's docklands.
Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade, seven ambulances and a number of Garda vehicles attended the scene.
The "crawler" crane collapsed at the Point Village development site at about 8.40am yesterday.
The building contractor working on the site, Michael McNamara Company, said one man was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. A further two employees were also taken to hospital for observation.
Workers on the site were evacuated. One employee, who declined to be named, said they were told the evacuation was due to a fire drill. Others refused to comment on the incident.
The company said an investigation was under way and that the Health Safety Authority (HSA) had been informed. A spokesman for the HSA confirmed it had been notified and said an investigation team would inspect the site.
The Point Village is a large development of residential and commercial units near the Point venue, now called the 02.
