Thousands of third-level students are set to protest outside the Dáil this afternoon as the Minister for Finance delivers his budget speech.

The students are protesting at the increasing cost of going to college, which student leaders claim has reached over €6,000 per year.

They are demanding the reversal of the hike in registration fees by 69 per cent and a promise fees will not be re-introduced for third-level education.

Yesterday, gardaí were called in to remove 11 students who barricaded themselves into an office in the Department of Finance.
