The art of trendspotting

The eternally trendy live in a world of constant flux

The eternally trendy live in a world of constant flux. On the one hand they're delving into the uber-urban with futuristic pre-millennial hair cuts and minimal outfits. On the other they're tripping down memory lane with embroidered frayed denims and linen tunics. So how do you really know what's in?

Artist Catherine Owens poses this question and comes up with a few answers at a new solo exhibition which opened at the Hugh Lane Gallery on Thursday night. Having previously curated onscreen imagery for U2's Popmart Tour as well as collaborating on-screen imagery for the Zoo TV world tour, Owens is no stranger to the worlds of art, entertainment, technology and fashion.

Thursday night proved to be a melting pot of people - those moving through the gallery included Paul McGuinness, singer Gavin Friday, Bill Hughes of Radius TV, author Colm Toibin and designer Louise Kennedy.
