Taxi-driver fined for sexism

A taxi-driver who made a "rude sexist remark" to a woman was fined £30 yesterday

A taxi-driver who made a "rude sexist remark" to a woman was fined £30 yesterday. Mr Ciaran Fagan, of Liscarne Gardens, Clondalkin, was also ordered to pay £40 witness expenses to the woman after he pleaded guilty to abusive behaviour at Stable Lane, Smithfield, on June 10th.

The Dublin District Court heard the incident occurred after the woman asked him to move his cab, which was blocking the street. Fagan claimed he was on the narrow road at the time because he was picking up two elderly people, one of whom was on crutches.

Another taxi-driver, James Burrows, of St Patrick's Road, Walkinstown, was also fined £30 with £40 witness expenses after he admitted refusing to take a fare at Dublin Airport last June because the journey would have been too short.

Taxi-driver Paul Sheridan, of Downpatrick Road, Crumlin, was fined £30 with £40 witness expenses after he admitted giving the "two-finger salute" to another motorist at Eden Quay on May 23rd last.
