France's Nathalie Tauziat defeated Miriam Oremans of The Netherlands 6-3, 7-5 today to win the Edgbaston Open title on her farewell appearance at the Edgbaston grass court event.

Tauziat (33), who will retire from the WTA tour at the end of the season, strolled to a comfortable win in a final held over an extra day due to heavy rainyesterday.

She survived break points in her first two service games and grabbed the crucial break in the sixth game of the first set when Oremans double-faulted.

Tauziat, the favourite and number one seed, went on to win the first set 6-3 before racing into a 5-1 second set lead.
