The Taoiseach is "too busy" with a schedule of football punditry, opening hair salons and attending sporting fixtures to control his Government, Fine Gael claimed today.

Ms Nora Owen, the party’s TD for North Dublin, alleged Mr Bertie Ahern’s mind was "not on the job...leaving his Ministers ‘home alone’ with nobody to supervise their squabbling".

She said this was particularly damaging for the workers at Aer Lingus facing an uncertain future, as they were being left in the dark about their fate.

"The Taoiseach is clearly not in charge and is either incapable of, or not interested in, letting the hard-pressed workers of Aer Lingus know where they stand," Ms Owen said.
