GENEVA - An international conference opened here yesterday aimed at adopting a new code of conduct against the use of anti personnel mines.

Millions of landmines are currently lying ready to be triggered in 64 countries, some dating back to the second World War but most laid in civil conflicts, according to International Committee of the Red Cross figures.
