Forbairt and the IDA are working with the Asahi management in Killala, Co Mayo, on proposals relating to the future of the plant, which employs 320 people. The Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, said he had met a delegation from the parent company.
Forbairt and the IDA had been in further "intensive, difficult and complex" discussions with local and parent management.
