Kabul - The ruling Taliban militia and the World Food Programme (WFP) yesterday reached an agreement to resume bakery operations halted by a row over women workers in Afghanistan, WFP officials said.

"We have good news, we are going to deliver food to the bakeries. I give the instruction now, it may be the day after that the bakeries will resume operation," WFP director for Afghanistan Mr Gerard van Dijk told reporters after talks with Taliban officials. Under the agreement, WFP has agreed to engage women workers from the health ministry (MOPH) in a survey to update the list of beneficiaries. "We are working with staff of the MOPH and we got assurances that would be fine. We are going to monitor the situation," Mr Dijk said.

Taliban rules insist only women are allowed to interview other women for the survey.
