A Taliban suicide car bomber rammed a US coalition convoy in the southern Afghan province of Khost today and caused an unknown number of casualties.

The attacker blew himself to pieces, and his vehicle was completely, while two US soldiers suffered slight injuries, according to a spokesman for the provincial governor.

The Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press news agency said a Taliban spokesman had called to claim responsibility for the attack.

The latest attack comes during the bloodiest period in an insurgency that has been raging since US-backed forces ousted a Taliban government from power in late 2001.
