Takar lands prize at the Curragh

Racing:Takar had no trouble justifying long odds-on favouritism in the KARE Race Day Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh. A winner of a Listed race over course and distance in early May before having his limitations exposed in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, John Oxx's three-year-old got back on the winning trail at Leopardstown a month ago.

Facing just two opponents in this Group Three affair, the outcome was never in any doubt for the 1-7 favourite. Johnny Murtagh’s mount soon saw off Among Equals and stayed on well in the testing conditions, with Singing Bird coming through for second.

Oxx said: “Takar’s next run will be at Leopardstown in the Desmond Stakes in mid-August — he might have to face fast ground then, though. He has only run once on fast ground — in the Guineas — and he didn’t run well when we thought he would love it.”
