An international donor conference for Lebanon, which Swedish prime minister Göran Persson has offered to host, will take place in Stockholm on August 31st, the Swedish foreign ministry said yesterday.
"We proceed from the fact that the ceasefire will be respected so that the conference can be held on August 31st according to our plans," foreign minister Jan Eliasson said in a statement.
The conference will focus on humanitarian needs and early reconstruction and is being arranged in close co-operation with the Lebanese government and the United Nations, the ministry added.
About 60 governments and organisations have been invited.
