Freetown - Life in Sierra Leone's edgy capital returned almost to normal yesterday following pro-government demonstrations and violence amid unverifiable reports that rebels were poised to attack.

On Saturday two men alleged to be rebel informers were burned alive during a peace rally which brought thousands onto the streets, witnesses said. They were caught in the capital's central business district and "necklaced" with blazing tyres.
