A suspected bomb thrown at a house in Northern Ireland was tonight defused by British army explosives experts.

A suspected bomb thrown at a house in Northern Ireland was tonight defused by British army explosives experts.

Troops were called in during a lengthy security alert in Bangor, Co Down. Police later disclosed the suspect device had been hurled at an address on Brunswick Road in the town.

It failed to explode, but smashed a window and landed in the garden. No motive for the attack has been established, and forensic tests were tonight being carried out on the device.
