Nobody writes women's blockbuster fiction better than Marian Keyes and the best thing is she's getting better and better with every book. Sushi For Beginners is set in the office of a Dublin women's magazine, so there's lots of boyfriend angst, more than a little petty bitchiness and a never-ending supply of hair and make-up. But what separates Keyes from all the other wannabes is her exhuberant and extremely clever writing style. She has the ability to mix the fluffy handbag stuff with real issues such as depression, divorce and even homelessness without a drop of worthy earnestness dripping from her pen. Keyes is a masterful writer - she can be achingly funny one minute and wincingly accurate in her observations the next. Anyone who's inclined to thumb their noses snootily at this type of fiction should think again. This one's a page-turner.
