The High Court has confirmed a recommendation that a plastic surgeon be removed from the medical register after he was found guilty of misconduct over care provided by him to a woman following breast augmentation surgery.

A Medical Council fitness to practise committee last May found Dr Marco Loiacono (35), guilty of misconduct on a number of charges in relation to his treatment of Kate Murray, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.

Ms Murray (25) developed a severe infection in both breasts and became seriously ill following an operation on March 15th, 2008, at the Cosmedico Clinic in Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow.

The committee found Dr Loiacono failed to provide Ms Murray with adequate post-operative care.
