The Supreme Court is to consider an appeal today by the Minister for Health on a ruling allowing the pursuance of further claims for compensation for hepatitis C infection. If rejected, the Government will face claims for tens of millions of euro.

The Minister's appeal is over whether or not a person infected with hep C through contaminated blood products has the right to appeal to the High Court an award already accepted from the Compensation Tribunal.

The court found, last July, that a person who accepted an award from the Compensation Tribunal could appeal the amount to the High Court.
