Johannesburg - President Nelson Mandela yesterday called for an urgent summit between the government and the country's farming community to discuss attacks on South African farms which have claimed hundreds of lives.
The number of people who have died in recent attacks on farms, was totally unacceptable, Mr Mandela said after a meeting with the South African Agricultural Union (SAAU), which represents most of the country's white farmers. The SAAU claims that 554 people have died in attacks on farms since Mr Mandela's African National Congress came to power in 1994.
