The State is challenging the authenticity of a Nigerian newspaper article which claimed a businessman would not get an amnesty if returned there, the High Court was told yesterday.

The man, who is appealing against a decision refusing him refugee status in Ireland, claims he is a member of a wealthy Nigerian family, was chairman of a pro-democracy movement and was imprisoned and tortured before escaping with the aid of bribes.

Mr Justice O'Higgins fixed April 24th for the hearing to give the man's lawyers time to investigate the dispute.
