Sound 'glitches' at Aviva resolved

There will be no repeat of the sound problems at the Michael Bublé concerts for future events in the Aviva Stadium, the stadium's director Martin Murphy has said.

Mr Murphy moved to reassure fans attending the Neil Diamond concert on Saturday night and The Script on Saturday week that any problems with the sound quality in the upper stands of the stadium have been dealt with.

In September following Bublé's two concerts at the Aviva Stadium, fans claimed they could not hear what he was singing or saying and others complained about echoes coming off the roof of the stadium.

The problems were confined to the upper tiers of the West and East Stands while those on lower tiers and on the pitch enjoying good sound quality.

“There won’t be a problem on Saturday. Those were our first concerts and everything was being tried out for the first time,” Mr Murphy said.

“The glitches that were there in the upper tiers. It was relating to the tweaking of the sound system which we have dealt with."

Diamond’s concert on Saturday will only be the third to be hosted by the stadium which will welcomed its millionth paying customer on the night.

Diamond paid a visit to the Aviva Stadium three weeks ago while he was in Ireland to see the venue. He previously played Lansdowne Road and Croke Park on several occasions.

To date 37,000 tickets have been sold for the all-seater concert which includes X-Factor finalist Mary Byrne as support. The capacity for the concert is 40,000. It has been heavily promoted including a recent appearance by Diamond on the Late Late Show.

The capacity for The Script concert will be 50,000 and it is expected to be sold out. All available tickets sold out when the concert went on sale in November and a number of production tickets will go on sale on Friday.

Garda spokesman Superintendent Barry O’Brien said their policing would reflect the completely different age-groups which will attend both concerts.

He said gardaí will be particularly vigiliant to ensure that no street drinking takes place on the day of The Script concert.
