Gardaí called to toy store as frantic parents chase ‘Frozen’ Elsa doll

‘We could sell empty boxes with ‘Frozen’ written on them’ says shop owner of sold-out toy

It is probably not the first time gardaí have been called to intervene in a fight over a doll.

Yesterday morning gardaí were called after a row started among people queuing in the Airfield Retail Park in Swords, Co Dublin, where weary parents had waited overnight to buy this season's hot toy, Frozen's Snow Glow Elsa doll.

Gary Grant chairman of the Toys Retailers Association has said, "We could sell empty boxes with Frozen written on them at the moment."

The queuing has not been confined to Dublin. In Galway, 60 people gathered outside Smyth's toy-store overnight to purchase one of the singing dolls.

The 26 doll shipment was dispensed through a ticketing system and only minor incidents of rage and despair were reported.

According to the Argos and Smyths Toys websites the €45 Elsa doll is currently sold out.

Elsa is Disney’s latest heroine from its hit movie Frozen, has been hailed as one of its best creations in recent years.

The film has captured the imaginations of little girls worldwide and placed the Elsa doll on the Dreamtoys 2014 list of best-selling Christmas toys, not once, but twice.

The Frozen Snow Glow Elsa doll sings Frozen’s hit song ‘Let It Go’, raises her arms, and wears a shiny dress that lights up.

Matters have worsened for frantic parents, as children have confirmed that it is in fact not the thought that counts, but the Elsa doll that does.
